Customization

Because each student is unique, it is important that the AAC system be personalized with custom icons, words, phrases, and access methods that are important and relevant to the student.  The Feature Matching Checklist used during the decision-making process will assist the team in addressing the needs of the individual student.

We want communicators to be drawn to their AAC system and be interested in using it. A communication system is the AAC learner’s voice and should reflect who they are as an individual, including their interests, needs, and wants. Customization is an ongoing process in which the team observes how the system is used and provides adjustments as needed.
