Data Collection

Collecting data during device trials is essential; however, the type of data collected depends on the needs and skills of the student. When creating a trial implementation plan, the team should have clearly identified goals and the data collected should be a direct reflection of these goals.

The data collection method is also important and individualized based on trial goals. The team should adopt a method that is consistent and able to be easily used by all team members. It will be important to take data across various environments, activities and times of the day.

The team should identify a clear time frame for collecting data. Research suggests a 30-day trial; however, some trials may be shortened or extended based on how the student responds. Regular team meetings, during which data is reviewed, will assist the team in identifying these timelines and next steps.
