Systematic Instruction
Systematic Instruction involves careful planning to target specific, meaningful goals. The plan includes instructional practices to be implemented, evaluation of the effectiveness of the instruction, and making adjustments based on data collected.
A systematic plan is developed collaboratively, builds upon prior learning, progresses from simple to complex, and is designed to support the learning needs of the AAC user.
The plan includes:
- What to teach
- When to teach
- How to teach
- How to evaluate
The Activity Objective Matrix is a good tool for helping teams develop a systematic plan for AAC instruction.
